6 Simple Steps to Create a Facebook Business Page

Having a Facebook Page is the one of the most effective ways to create brand presence and reach out to your target audience. Here are the essential steps to set up one.

Creating your very own Facebook Page may seem like a tall order, but trust me, it is much simpler than it looks! If you are reading this article, then you should probably have some form of business direction in place and all you need is to a place to work that magic of growth.

Before you create a Facebook Business Page, make sure that you have the following items:

  • A logo
  • A cover image for your banner
  • Several images for your first few posts
  • Your business details (including your business name, a valid email address, your brand story, contact details, a website URL (if any))

Have you already gotten all these in place? Well then, let’s get right to it!

How to create a Facebook page for business

In order for you to sign up for a Facebook Business Page, you will first need to log into your personal Facebook account. The reason for this is because your personal profile will act as an Admin who manages your business account and ensure credibility. After all, you are going to be your own boss. Your details from your personal account won’t be visible on your business page unless you manually share them between pages so don’t worry about any information overlapping.

However, if you would like to create a Facebook Page without linking to your personal profile, read this article here on how to do just that.

If you have signed in to your personal page, hop on to the next step to create your Business Page.

Step 1: Setting Up the Page

From your own personal Facebook Page, click on the ‘+’ at the top right corner. In the drop-down list, select ‘Page’. Alternatively, go to facebook.com/pages/create.

Step 2: Creating the Page

Selecting the ‘Page’ will lead you to the Page editor, as shown above. Fill in the necessary details (those that are required) about your business before you can continue.

Page Information: This is where you will be including the name of your business or a name that is easily searchable. A business can have multiple Facebook Pages if there are a few target audiences so try to think of a name that will differentiate from the other pages you intend to create. For example, if your target audiences lie in different parts of the world, then a distinctive Page name could be [Business Name – Area]. Let’s say you are showcasing a new collection for your shoes catered for Italians, then an example would be [Business Name’s New Collection – Area] à [The Shoemaker’s Leather Loafers – Italia].

Do note that there are restrictions when it comes to creating a Page name too. So make sure your name accurately reflects your business.

Category: The category is where you describe what your page is about. Enter a word or two that best describes your business and select from the list of Facebook suggestions. You are allowed to add up to three categories.

Description:  Include a brief a brief summary of what your business does. You should include key products and services that are offered or the main purpose of the page. Take note of the 255 characters limit, so there is really no need to elaborate here, just a few sentences will make the cut.

Once you are done filling in the details, click on “Create Page”. Note that by continuing to the next section indicates your acceptance of Facebook’s Pages, Groups and Events Policies, so do give that a read through before you proceed.

Step 3: Adding Pictures

This may be the fun part among all of the other procedures. In this next section, you will need to upload your profile and cover images that you have probably spent hours designing to get the perfect logo. First impressions are crucial so make sure that your images are relevant to your brand and easily recognizable.

Upload your profile image first, that is your business logo. This will be the image that people will look at when they search for your business and will also appear on the top left-hand corner of the page.

Depending on the nature of your business, having a recognizable profile image will keep you distinct from your competitors. If your brand is a local business with or without some level of recognition, then having a logo will be the most effective way. If you are a public figure like a politician, social media influencer or a celebrity, then using a clear headshot will be best.

Once you have uploaded your profile image, the next thing to do is to add a cover photo, which is the most dominant part of your page. You can do so by clicking on “Add Cover Photo”. From here, you will be able to choose an image that you have previously saved in your computer. The image must be able least 400 pixels wide and 150 pixels tall. Upload the right image and click on ‘save’.

Kudos to you for reaching this far!

However, the job isn’t completed yet. Time to add in some meat to the skeleton!

Step 4: Create a Username

Your username can be found on your newly created Facebook Page – it may look empty now, but if you follow Facebook’s guided steps, it will sure look like a whole lot of success soon!

Create a username (or also known as Vanity URL) of 5 to 50 characters that is unique and easy to remember. For more tips on creating a username, see here.

Once you’re done with that, you will see a pop up box indicating that you are all ready for people to discover your page easily when they are searching.

Step 5: Furnish with Business Details

While it may seem more or less completed, it is best to complete your page from the moment you created it. Yes, I am talking about the ‘About’ section.

The ‘About’ section is probably one of the most important parts of your page because it is often what a visitor would want to see next. For example, if a customer is searching for the opening hours of a restaurant, they can do so by visiting your Facebook Business Page. The lack of certain information may deter them from patronizing your business.

To edit this section, click on “More” and select “About” from the drop-down menu.

From here, you will be able to share everything about your business.

While the other information is self-explanatory, there is however, one item that may seem unconventional. The impressum. If you are wondering what that is, then you probably won’t need to worry about filling that up. The ‘impressum’ is a Latin word adopted in German; which means ‘Imprint’, ‘Credits’, ‘Legal Disclosure’, ‘Legal Notice’ or ‘Statement of Ownership’, basically a fancier name for ‘Terms of Conditions (TOS)’. It is used primarily in Germanic countries so if you are no from those areas, then this does not apply to you. If you are, then you may want to fill that out to avoid any potential legal charges.

Step 6: Create your First Post

Congratulations, you have officially created your Facebook Business Page!

Here comes the next chapter. Before you start sharing your page and inviting people to follow, you should have some content posted to get your page up and running. You can either populate your page with your own content or simply share relevant information from thought leaders in similar industries.

You can also choose the type of content that best suits your interests and needs.

Ensure that you provide content that are valuable and informative to your visitors so they would want to come back for more and eventually click on that important ‘follow’ button.
